My name is Sid and I am an international student and my major is Journalism. Mass media is a vast topic which cannot fit in any passage as it grows everyday with the working news channels,publishing of newspapers and magazines etc. Personally I feel that media does effect everyone's life whether its an addiction towards social networking site or playing games online with friends. My aim is to be a video journalist which includes work from shooting a video,editing, and be a host which is a difficult task which people don't know!!! Travelling shows like Fox Travel, TLC and Discovery excite me the most as people working get paid and at the same time travel the world.Mostly children starting from the age of 5 till teenagers get influenced by electronic media whether it be television, smartphones or anything related to entertainment. I might be wrong but in my opinion we shouldn't be highly influenced and should not over use the technological advancement because then we can have hard time to cope up with other aspects in life like ignoring parents and we tend to forget our cultural values. Hey Sid! nice post, i had no idea you were interested in working video journalism. Must be nice to travel and get paid, huh? I agree, i think the technological influence on us is WAY too powerful and affects the perception of the general populous. I like what you mentioned about values, because main stream media is notorious for shifting values and creating false values. You touched on a good broad point... to use technology, and not to let technology use us. Happy Fall Quarter to you too, bud.

ReplyDeleteVideo journalism is so relevant in our day and age because most people get their news off of television! I think it's awesome that you want to go in that direction. Traveling the world while working is definitely an upside to a career in journalism even if it doesn't pay as well financially. I also do not think we should be crazy influenced by technology because it can be *addicting*! Hope you have a great quarter, too!
ReplyDeleteSid, to start off, I absolutely love your perspective on media and how we, as a society, shouldn't be so heavily influenced and distracted on what's more important in life. I also think that the way your headed in life is such a great path to take due to how you can travel and fulfill your dream job at the same time. The fact that your an international student as well amazes me- that takes so much courage and dedication! You are a great inspiration. I wish you the best and can't wait to read what you have next (:
